“Reach for the Stars” – Aspirations Week
Reach for the Stars
Aspirations Week
From 1st to 4th November, we held an aspirations themed week across The Federation. The aims of the week were to get the children reflecting on their own talents, be that personal, sport, creative, academic, etc; to think about the goals they wanted to set for themselves in the short and long term; for the children to learn more about a range of different jobs; and reflect on the individuals who inspire them.
are incredibly grateful to the parents and members of the wider community who gave up their time and came in to speak to the children and to run workshops. We had 30 people in school over the course of the week including scientists, first responders, a professional dancer, a marketing executive, a vet, a farmer, dentist, digital publisher, digital architect, motocross champion, electrician, mechanic, nutritionist and many more. The children really enjoyed hearing about the different roles and asked lots of thoughtful and curious questions.
Furthermore, the children were sent a video from an ex-Mortimer pupil in Los Angeles, sharing his journey from leaving St Mary’s to working on well-known films and TV programmes in Hollywood! Some pupils were able to see a tractor close up, while others tried on the kits of firearms officers and firefighters, and others learned the secrets of Macdonald’s marketing campaigns!
The children came away from the week sharing facts they had learnt and experiences they had enjoyed! As well as a number with future careers in mind!
“I really enjoyed learning about how many different opportunities there are in the world and thinking about all of the different things I can do in the future.” (Jonathon)
“The first responder inspired me because it is good to know all the things you can do to help others.” (Freddy)
The children also enjoyed taking part in a range of other activities across the week in their year groups, including some classes visualising their futures, creating their own positive affirmations and creating wordles of their skills. “I liked doing positive affirmations because it made me feel good about myself and inspired me to follow my dreams.” (Lyra).
